It’s been way too long since I’ve reviewed anything. I’ve definitely been reading, and attempting to keep up with the YA book world with the new releases and stuff, but definitely not been doing a great job. But over the next couple of weeks, I have a few reviews for you all. The first one is today, which is a review for Eyes on Me by Rachel Harris. I was given this book to review by the publisher, but that in no way affected this review. Wow, I’m really out of practice. That really long winded sentence was just to say, ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN. I WAS NOT PAID TO WRITE ANYTHING. Cool, now that the disclaimer is out of the way, here we go! I loved the book!! The characters were well developed, and because I’m at the point where I’m in my senior year and everything is so stressful with college and the happenings, I related really deeply with the main character, Lily. She’s just had a bad medical episode, that was purely stress induced, she had lost a parent, and her other parent was not entirely present in her life. For so long, she’s been dependent solely on herself, but after this health scare, she needs something, or maybe even, someone else to lean on. Her father’s solution is to sign Lily up for dance lessons. Of course, Lily, by all means, refuses. She plays along, to get her father off her back, oblivious to the fact that the super hot boy, jock football player Stone, was paid by her father to keep her enrolled. Needless to say, Stone keeps this little fact away from Lily, and the two start falling for each other (and not just because Lily’s dancing skills may have dragged the two of them down a little, lol). For one thing, I definitely related to Lily. The college application process is extremely stressful, and I don’t know how I managed to get through it. Many times, I felt like I was going to fall apart like Lily did. That struck a chord with me and I was very sympathetic towards the character. Lily was very well written, so props to Ms. Harris for such amazing writing. And, who can pass on a football player? Like, yes please! Stone is so dreamy and anyone would want to be his dance partner. He is a popular guy with an element of mysteriousness, given that he’s a dancer. There are other relationships in this novel, one in particular being Stone’s twin sister and Lily’s best friend, Sydney. I really like how their worlds intertwines because of their friends as well, which really helped drive along the storyline. This novel’s plot is a bit cliche and predictable, but there are elements that are surprises. We all know that the main characters will fall in love, but the process they go through is unique. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ending was the best! Also, I absolutely love the cover. The pastel colors are so, so, so pretty. It’s simplistic but also so romantic. One of my goals in life is to be a book cover designer, and it’s covers like these that I look up to. This was one of the first books I read to get back into reviewing, and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I give the book a 9/10 (5 stars). Definitely go give this book a read. It’s a nice light romantic read and a good warm and fuzzy book! Let me know your thoughts, I want to talk books with y’all!! ~Brooke
