Happy Thursday everyone!
March was a busy month for me. I finished off another grading term in school and an End Of Course exam for English. In the midst of that, I finally had a break to read and write some reviews. There’s not much in the post; just the books I read and reviewed this month. Here’s the books that I read this month: -Closer home by Kerry Anne King -The Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz -Scarlet by Marissa Meyer -Not Cinderella’s Type by Jenni James -Royal Quest by Rachel Blanton I feel like there were more books that I read but this is the majority of them. I’m really proud of how many books I was able to read considering I had all of Spring Break to read. Also, here’s all the books that I reviewed in March: -Royal Quest by Rachel Blanton -Cinder by Marissa Meyer -Royal Masquerade by Carly Carson As usual, the list of upcoming books TBR and reviews coming will be posted tomorrow (by around this time) so keep your eyes out for that. Until tomorrow! ~Brooke

“Today is Monday, and that’s reason enough for me to hate it.”-everyone who hates mondays I know I'm super estatic whenever Friday rolls around but then way too quickly, Monday is here again. It's like I finally get a taste of freedom and then it's taken away. Mondays are the worst for me and here's my list of reasons why:
2. I have some of my hardest classes on Mondays. My school operates on a block schedule so I have 4 classes on each day. I'm not usually one to struggle in classes but Spanish and Precalculus really have my stressed out. I think that is the main cause of me not being able to sleep. I sometimes stay up on Sundays freaking out over whether or not I have the homework assignments done. 3. Nothing interesting ever happens on Mondays. Almost everything that happens on Mondays is trying to get back into the groove of the week. 4. Social interaction is required. If you're like me, then you know how hard it is to talk to people. On Mondays, everyone is asking about your weekend and are judging you based on what you did (high school kids can be cruel). I'm the type of person you'd usually find sitting in a corner somewhere either on my phone or reading (or doing homework). I like to avoid social interactions as much as possible but Mondays just seem to enjoy ruining that. So these are just some of many reasons I dislike Mondays. I know that if you don't go to school, some of these you can't relate to. If you agree (or disagree) with any of these or have any reasons of your own, then leave a comment or talk with me on social media. I love talking with people (just not in person :))
~Brooke Royal Quest (The Royal of Monterra) by Rachel Branton
Genre: Romance Published Date: January 20, 2016 Format: I received a review copy from the author (ebook) Book Description from Rachel Branton: Going undercover as a maid at the Lodge Royal in an attempt to meet her half sister, Katerina, isn’t one of Amelia Lennox’s best ideas. Kat has no idea of Amelia’s existence, and her recent marriage to Nico, the new King of Monterra, puts her further out of Amelia’s reach. Even if Amelia finds Kat, there’s no guarantee the queen will believe her— or that she wants a sister. To complicate matters, Amelia meets Davide Ciano, who steals her breath away and makes her knees weak. She’s never believed in the kind of fairy tale that her sister found, but then she’s never known anyone like Davide. Maybe, if their secrets don’t keep them apart, she might begin to believe. Royal Quest is the story of how two sisters find each other, and about love— true love. Because in Monterra, fairy tales do come true. If you have been keeping up with my reviews, you may have noticed that about half of the books that I have reviewed are of fairy tales and retellings of Cinderella (and/or other princesses). Yea,... I have just a slight obsession with Cinderella. But don’t worry, it’s completely normal and has a [short] story behind it.
The first fairytale that I read as a young child was Cinderella. I loved how the story goes. A poor girl who loses almost everything is taken in by her evil stepmother and she eventually finds Prince Charming. The original fairytale leaves so much to the imagination and through retelling, many authors have been able to put their twist on it. (I will link all the ones that I have reviewed at the end of this post.) There are so many ways to interpret the story. There are modern versions, future versions, and also ones changed into different cultures. Anyway, this post is a lot shorter than I anticipated but I felt that it was necessary to explain the reasoning behind the number of reviews about fairytale books. As promised, here are the books that I have reviewed on this site, to this date:
So what do you think? Do you guys like the books that I’m currently reviewing? Also, let me know which book I should review next! ~Brooke Cinder by Marissa Meyer (Book one of the Lunar Chronicles) Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy Release Date: January 8, 2013 Format: Borrowed ebook (You can buy the book here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Cinder-Book-One-Lunar-Chronicles/dp/1250007208/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458235700&sr=8-1&keywords=Cinder. Surprisingly, the paperback copy is cheaper than the ebook) My Summary: The book is set in future Beijing, China, where the king is suffering a deadly plague and androids roam the Earth along with humans. Cinder is a cyborg and a gifted mechanic with a very twisted and mysterious past. On the moon, another species exist. The Lunars, under the rule of Levana, have been looking for any excuse to attack Earth. Around the same time, Prince Kai’s father dies of the plague, making Kai the new Emperor of the New China. The Queen of Luna, Levana sees this period of mourning as the chance to try and take over the Earth. No one on Earth knows that their entire future is in the hands of a teenage cyborg. Cinder faces many crucial decisions in short amounts of time having to choose between her own freedom and to save her planet. Royal Masquerade by Carly Carson Genre: Romance Published: January 20, 2016 Format: I received a PDF of the book from Carly for an honest review Summary from Amazon: Alessandra Ranieri is forced to adopt a name that isn't really hers, when she returns to Monterra to claim an inheritance...that isn't really hers. She's certain that her Romany grandmother left her the property nestled in the foothills of the Monterran Alps that Raul needs to develop his ski resort. Raul Forli, heir to the dukedom of Forli, is determined to unmask Alessandra's masquerade. He knows she's lying. More importantly, he needs the same property she's claiming, and he's sure that his need is more desperate than hers. Because the duke is not all he seems, either. And he's got nothing to lose. This battle will be fiercely waged. Not in a court of law. But in the hearts of Alessandra and her fairy-tale duke. What I thought: WHOOHOOO!!! I'm so excited that I received a new ARC! The books is called One Paris Summer by Denise Grover Swank. Here's the summary from Netgalley to get you interested:
Most teens dream of visiting the City of Lights, but it feels more like a nightmare for Sophie Brooks. She and her brother are sent to Paris to spend the summer with their father, who left home a year ago without any explanation. As if his sudden abandonment weren't betrayal enough, he's about to remarry, and they're expected to play nice with his soon-to-be wife and stepdaughter. The stepdaughter, Camille, agrees to show them around the city, but she makes it clear that she will do everything in her power to make Sophie miserable. Sophie could deal with all the pain and humiliation if only she could practice piano. Her dream is to become a pianist, and she was supposed to spend the summer preparing for a scholarship competition. Even though her father moved to Paris to pursue his own dream, he clearly doesn't support hers. His promise to provide her with a piano goes unfulfilled. Still, no one is immune to Paris's charm. After a few encounters with a gorgeous French boy, Sophie finds herself warming to the city, particularly when she discovers that he can help her practice piano. There's just one hitch—he's a friend of Camille's, and Camille hates Sophie. While the summer Sophie dreaded promises to become best summer of her life, one person could ruin it all. I can't wait to read it and share it with you! Let me know what you think about the books and if you want to get it. ~Brooke I'm so excited for March because it means that there's only 2 more weeks until SPRING BREAK!! I know I seem way to excited for spring break because it's only a week long but it's the next best thing other than summer. Since I currently don't have too much things to do in school, it leaves more time for me to read and write discussion posts and become friends with other bloggers as well.
I have finally got my hands on a couple of books that I've been wanting to read for a couple months now and I finally have a chance to read them.
So these are the books I want to read in March. Now that I've shared the ones I want to read, I would like to know, what are the books you want to read? Let me know in the comments section. ~Brooke |
