This is my first review: Cinderella’s Broken Slipper by Sapphire is a YA romance novel. It was published in May 2014 and is the first in “The Princesses” series which I will be reviewing later on. I believe this is a self-published book and be warned, there are some spelling errors within the book as well but they are minor ones. The book is about Cindy, a 16 year old girl who moves to a small town with her widowed stepmother after her father dies of a heart attack. Her ‘evil’ stepmother has never worked a day in her life and now has to raise the family of her two daughters and Cindy. Cindy is basically treated as well, Cinderella. When she goes to school, her stepsisters are automatically the popular girls but Cindy gets left with the outcasts of the school and they befriend her. Her friends are an interesting bunch of girls. They are all misfits and all have their own backstories about how they ended up going to the same high school. Each of her friends portray another fairy tale princess and it was fun for me to guess at their ‘modern’ stories. The rest of the books in the series focus on each of the other girls and it was easy to get really attached to each of the girls. There is also a fairy godmother who shows up sometime in the middle of the book and tries to help Cindy pair up with the school’s soccer prince, Aaron. I love how the book seems like a regular Cinderella tale but ends up in a very different place without the reader really realizing that the journey is being made. The prince is also the one who ends up getting saved by ‘Cinderella’ which is a fresh twist to the classic fairy tale.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes young adult romance although I would not recommend this for anyone under 13 years old as there are some scenes that are unsuitable for younger children and teens. Even if you don’t like fairy tale retellings, I think you would still like to read this book because the fairy tale part can be easily unnoticed but if you are someone who can not stand spelling errors, you might want to steer clear of this book. I look forward to reading the rest of the series by Sapphire! Have you read this book? If you have any comments, leave them in the comments section! ~Brooke

I read this story last year and am up to book 4 in the series. All the 'Princess'' are easy to love. My favorite in the series is Book 3 Rapunzel. I can see the writers' growth in each book & look forward to the next in the series. I think many women, not just teens would enjoy these books as well. It's nice to see characters not waiting to be 'saved' by the dream Prince. BTW, I'm 49 years old.
