Idea for the post: Inspiration for the book, the characters, the location, etc...
The seed of this story was a girl who falls in love with her best friend.
I wanted an ensemble cast of characters to grow that Texas feeling of extended family and friends. I also wanted a family to be in turmoil, and it broke my heart when I learned my girl's brother had a life-threatening heart condition.
My girl needed a dream. I don't know if I can write a character that doesn't have some fan love. My girl loved anime and wanted more than just fan status. She let me know she was dreaming of being a voice-over actress.
Fun Fact! My characters write me letters about what they want.
People need pets. A friend of mine has sugar gliders and, ta-da, so did my character.
Why Austin, Texas? A phrase that is popular in these parts is "Keep Austin Weird." Where else could I set this book?
And who do you find in Austin? University of Texas student-college guys. Romance is in the air!
Brooke's a high schooler who loves to read all sorts of books. She's happy to be able to share all the books she's reading with all of y'all.
