Guys, I'm so excited to present to you today a guest post by Erin Fletcher, the author of newly released book All Laced Up, published under Entangled Crush! This post is all about her inspiration of the book and her writing process. Keep reading! Also I will have the review for the book up tomorrow so keep an eye out for that!! Inspiration and Process: All Laced Up by Erin Fletcher Hi! My name is Erin Fletcher, and I’m an author of young adult novels. Today I’m going to be talking about the inspiration and process for writing by latest book, the figure skater and hockey player YA romance titled All Laced Up. I’ll let you in on a few secrets, like where all of my figure skating knowledge comes from and why my alarm is always set for 4:37 a.m. when I’m working on a book. All Laced Up – The Inspiration Someone wise once said you should write what you know. What do I know? Figure skating. I hit the ice toward the end of elementary school and didn’t quit until I finished college, where I was on my university’s synchronized skating team. (Yes, it’s a thing. Yes, it’s like synchronized swimming, but the water is frozen.) As a result, I have a plethora of skating knowledge filed away in my brain: which edge you take off from for a flip jump (backwards outside), how to pronounce salchow (the last syllable is actually “cow,” not “chow”), how to prevent blisters from new skates (moleskin!). Even if these details didn’t make it into the book, I wanted to use my knowledge to write a story. More than that, I wanted to put the experience of being on the ice into words. Since I knew my female main character was going to be a figure skater, adding the romantic element of a hockey player was only natural. (See: The Cutting Edge. Toe pick!) All Laced Up – The Process Once I knew what the book was going to be about, the first step in my process was working out the major plot points. My incredibly brilliant editor was a huge help with that! From there, I put the plot points into Scrivener and started drafting. When I’m drafting a book, I do most of my writing before my day job. I set my alarm for 4:37 so I can join #5amwritersclub on Twitter and get 500 to 1000 words written before heading to the office. (Why 4:37? Because 23 minutes is the exact amount of time I need to get up, shower, make coffee, and be at my computer by 5:00!) Once the first draft was written and revised, I submitted it to my editor. We went through several rounds of edits, I got to do the fun stuff like seeing the cover and proofreading the galley, and then the book was published! I had a blast writing Lia and Pierce’s story, and hope you’ll enjoy reading it! Thank you so much to Brooke for having me on The Cozy Little Book Nook! Happy reading! About the Author: Erin is a young adult author from North Carolina. She is a morning person who does most of her writing before sunrise, while drinking excessive quantities of coffee. She believes flip-flops qualify as year-round footwear, and would spend every day at the beach if she could. She has a bachelor's degree in mathematics, which is almost never useful when writing books.
