Royal Dance (The Royals of Monterra) by Rachel Branton Genre: Romance Publication Date: July 9, 2016 Format: I received a e-arc copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. Summary: When Prince Tristano asks Harper Thackery to remodel the interior of his family home, she isn’t sure it’s her design skills he really requires. His primary intent appears to be using their relationship to deflect other women and his matchmaking mother. He knows Harper intends to marry another man, which makes her safe—completely off limits by her own decree. But why does Tristano have to dance so . . . well, like a prince? And why does his gaze turn her insides to liquid fire? Harper finds herself torn between two dreams, the happily-ever-after she always imagined and a fairytale that might not be real. All because of a magical night and a chance meeting with a prince. If only she has the courage to accept one last dance that might change everything. My thoughts: I was insanely excited to read the book when Rachel reached out to me and asked if I was willing to read and review her book. I was beyond excited so my answer of of course! So here’s my review:
The first problem I have with everyone of the books in this kindle world is figuring out who the main character is and how the male role is related to the royal family. So the main character is Harper, a home interior designer who’s living in Monterra without her fiance, who is stationed in Germany. She is also the best friend of Amelia Lennox, who we met in Royal Quest, Rachel’s first book in the series. (You can find that review here). I love the interactions between Harper and Mel, as well as Mel’s future mother in law, Lucia. That motherly feel is a large part in that first few chapters as Lucia made Harper feel as if she was on of her own. Of course, by the end of Chapter 1, we all meet Prince Tristano and see how smitten by him Harper already is. By the way he is described, I’m not surprised that every mother at the ball is trying to push their available daughters at him. The book alternates between the point of view of Harper and Tristano’s point of view. It doesn’t alternate every chapter so the number one that I had to make sure was to check who was talking in that chapter. Truth be told, I was more interested to find out more about Jianna, Tristano’s ex-girlfriend. She seemed like she had been hurt before and she had a delicate personality as well. I would love to read a book about her and when she was dating Tristano, and what she’s up to now. Obviously she’s had an interesting story and I’m really hoping that Rachel will write her book in the future. I love Harper’s sense for adventure, and taking the lead on where they go while exploring parts of the old cities. She also knows how to take charge, especially when talking interior designing. The ending of these books are also usually the same, but that doesn’t stop me from reading them. I loved the ‘safety’ of them, because I know for sure that I won’t have my heart broken and it will be a happily ever after, straight from the fairy tales. I do however, feel like the ending was a little rushed. I would loved to have found out what happened on the military base. Of course, what kind of review would it be if I didn’t talk about the cover of the book? I love all the blue that’s happening on it. Especially the shade of blue on her eyes stands out against everything else. Harper talks about how gold is her color but I would like to beg differently. Blue is such a stunning color on this model and I’m not sure gold would look as good on her. (Ok, I’m getting really personal with this now and you’re probably thinking, ‘oh give up on it Brooke, it’s just a cover’). Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I give it a 7/10 (which rounds up to a 4/5 on reviewing sites). I hope you all enjoyed the review and if you haven’t already, go over and read the books for yourself. There are so many new books in this Kindle World and the newest book by Sariah Wilson (the original author) is coming out tomorrow so go read that as well. I want to know if you’d want to travel to Monterra and what you would do if a handsome prince asked you out.
