Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins Genre: Young Adult Contemporary Romance Published: December 2, 2010 I can’t believe that I just read this book a month ago but it was published over 5 years ago. I loved how well this was written. This book is cute, intense, romantic, funny, and dramatic. It captures romance of the City of Love. Background: Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta. She has her best friend, her crush on a coworker at her job in the movie theater and her future planned out ahead of her. Her plans are ruined when her father ships her off to SOAP, a Paris boarding school. She thinks that she’ll hate it as she does not speak a word of French and is the new girl in a class of 25 classmates but to her amazement, she easily makes new friends which includes Etienne St. Clair, an attractive guy catches her eye. But of course, they are in the City of Love so will Anna find love or will she end up with a crushed heart?
My Thoughts: I loved how Perkins went in depth with the story and didn’t just skim on storyline like some authors do. I loved all the details that was included when describing the food and the culture in France. And how can we forget about St. Clair. The character was so well written that I fell in love with him. This book makes me want to visit Paris even more than I ever have. The setting of Anna and the French Kiss is amazing. Not only is it a boarding school, it’s in Paris with all the students in a tightly knit circle. The only flaw I found was that some of the decisions that these characters made were not as smart as you would expect them to make. Overall, this was a very well written book and I can’t wait to read the other books by Stephanie Perkins. ~Brooke
